Really pleased with my efforts with Ilford HP5 film today. The task was to make images that conveyed the sounds of, The Thrillseekers, "Where the oceans meet". Again I decided to go to the beach at West Wittering first thing this morning and once again I was virtually alone working in this stunning landscape.A stark monochrome scene captures a windswept coastal dune where marram grasses cling tenaciously to the shifting sands. Their slender, spiky blades arc and ripple, a testament to the ever-present wind. The grasses, etched in delicate detail, seem almost skeletal against the grainy texture of the sand. Below, the wind has sculpted intricate patterns — undulating ridges and ripples, some sharp and others blurred, forming a tapestry of nature's artistry. The interplay of light and shadow highlights the textures, emphasizing the contrast between smooth, untouched surfaces and areas disrupted by footfalls or the grasses' restless roots.Above, a dark grey winter sky looms, heavy with moisture, its brooding presence adding to the somber mood. Wispy clouds streak across the heavens, blending seamlessly into the horizon. The scene feels frozen in time, a moment of stark beauty captured in the quiet desolation of winter. The absence of color intensifies the drama, turning the marram grasses and wind-sculpted sands into a study of form and texture. Shadows stretch long and deep across the dunes, accentuating their curves and hollows, while the dark sky presses low, threatening but silent, completing the haunting tableau.
